What is Enable U?
Following the success of Pendle Support’s CAMEL ( Come and Meet East Lancs ) Club, it was apparent that more needed to be done to provide meaningful, cost effective activities in the local area.
The CAMEL Club had helped to tackle social isolation, signpost people to other services and also build strong friendships amongst people who used it.
People learnt new skills and became more confident in their day to day lives through its activities.
It was decided in 2015 that to continue and build upon the good work of the CAMEL Club we would form a Community Interest Company, “Enable U”.
Enable U is based on the ground floor of Stanley Villas where it offers a games room, arts and crafts room, chill out room and kitchen. We are also having a wet room installed.
Our games room has a pool table, air hockey table, table football and a table tennis table available.
We will also have film nights, karaoke and other social events here.
Our kitchen will host lifeskill classes and will service our events.
The chill out room will be a peaceful area where people can hang out.
This is all ontop of our usual offering of our Gardening Club, Dance Club and Cooking Classes, not to mention our support of the Danny Ings Disability Sports project at Burnley Football Club.
Enable U is committed to providing access to meaningful activities in the local community and signposting people to other services that may be of use. We are committed to tackling social isolation for the people we support and the wider community.
We want to “Enable” people to live their lives as independently as possible and provide support to enable people to do so.
